Filbert Croft Old-Time Scotch Collies

Striving to produce robust, healthy companions fit for farm and field in NW Oregon.

Old-School Genetics, Modern Practices

Our number one priority is the safety and health of our dogs and the dogs we produce.  We are breeding to preserve this breed which we hold so dear and which still stands at risk of failure to thrive and extinction. Our goal is to produce a line of dogs that is as free from heritable diseases as possible, of sound minds and which excel both as working dogs and family companions, just as their ancestors did over 100 years ago.

Early Stimulation

We believe the key to a well rounded, calm family companion starts at birth, and that to help each dog develop, each puppy is given a good start with proven early neurological stimulation programs such as Bio-Sensor and ESI “early scent introduction.”

Extensive Socialization

To give puppies the best start in life, they should be introduced to as many experiences and activities as possible in their early lives and development. We are committed to exposing and socializing our puppies as much as possible, to as many experiences as possible.

Whether that is handling, grooming and nail clipping, leashes, collars and harnesses, household sounds and activities, riding in cars, crate training, behaving at the vet and other public spaces, kitchen sounds, scary objects like vacuum cleaners and hair dryers, or safe introduction to livestock, we want to ensure our puppies are set up for success.

A Foundation of Health

All of our puppies start out with a foundation in good health. Puppies will be completely vaccinated for Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Adenovirus, Distemper, Bordetella, Leptospirosis & Rabies before leaving our home and care.

Our puppies also receive microchips and complete genetic testing through Embark Vet, including CEA, MDR-1 Sensitivity, Degenerative Myelopathy, DM (SOD1A), PRA-PRCD, Von Willbrands II, as well as 270+ other conditions and traits such as projected adult size, coat length, color locus’ such as merle.

Our love for the Scotch Collie breed started in 2014, and has only grown stronger since.  We currently are the proud owners of four of these wonderful dogs, Heritage Our Laddie & Sivyer Glen Bonnie Scarlet Ree, and two home-bred babies, Filbert Croft Mighty Magnus & Filbert Croft Nicnevan.

An OTSC is the same Scotch Collie that was so popular 100 years ago.  Some branches of this family have diverged in the past century either through selective breeding (Rough Collie) or crossing with other breeds (English Shepherd, Australian Shepherd), but some have remained more or less true to form, it is these remnant old type Scotch Collies that are referred to as OTSC.

Most of these dogs either are working farm dogs or have working farm dogs in their pedigree. Unlike some farm dogs that you may be familiar with though, OTSC will learn the rules and be content to lie around when there is nothing to do, they will not worry your stock unnecessarily, nor are they high strung.

Our Puppy Map

If at any time a puppy we bred can no longer stay with their family, we will always take them back! Furthermore, this is stipulated in our puppy contract.

On a case-by-case basis, we also offer crisis fostering to help our puppies families’ stay together.
